Understanding and Eliminating the School to Prison Pipeline

For those new to the educational scene or new to their current roles, this session will break down the School to Prison Pipeline from a historical perspective. It will highlight how beginning with Columbine in 1999, our educational system began a series of legislative and punitive responses to emotional events that when taken in concert with the ways the social services issues of the time were being addressed spiraled into the ugliest marker on schools since segregation and denial of education for some over others. The good news is that by understanding how it was created, we are better prepared to implement the solutions that will eliminate the impacts of these decisions for generations to come.
